Most travellers visiting Thailand for tourism purposes require a visa. Some are eligible to gain a visa on arrival whereas others need to apply in advance of their visit if visiting for a period of 15-30 days. However, passport holders of certain countries don’t require a visa on arrival at all. All passport holders must have their passport valid for at least 6 months after their proposed stay in order to be accepted into the country.

 

Am I exempt from requiring a Thai tourist visa?

Passport holders of up to 64 countries can enter Thailand without a visa. To check if you’re eligible for this click here.  A maximum of 30 days stay is granted upon arrival if entering Thailand via an international airport or through a land border checkpoint from a neighbouring country. The visa fee is $30.Those passport holders who are eligible must have proof of onward journey (such as a flight ticket) and money such as 10000 Thai Baht to prove you can fund your trip.

 

Do I require a Thai tourist visa?

Passport holders of 19 countries are eligible for a visa on arrival to find out if your country is, click here. They must also have the following:

 

  • Tourists filling out this visa form must have a genuine address to note down when visiting such as a hotel or an apartment which can be verified.
  • Proof of an onward return ticket to fly out of Thailand within 15 days of arrival.
  • A 4 x 6 cm photograph of your face
  • Proof of financial means according to the Thai embassy’s website (20,000 baht per person/40,000 baht per family)
  • Filled in visa form
