Wake up on the smiling coast to glorious sunrises and mesmerising Gambian scenery. Be taught by two wellbeing experts, Linda, the founder of Ethical Travel Portal. Who became a certified yoga teacher, in Darjeeling, India. Whereas Jo, another travel expert from the UK, met Linda in the Gambia and also qualified during the same year. Both experts will lead you into playful restorative vinyasa yoga and mindfulness sessions at an eco-lodge. Practice in the shala, on a peaceful riverbank or during sunrise by the shore. When not doing yoga, cook with a local and try your hand at tie-dying.


Vinyasa yoga involves moving to different postures using your breath. Likewise, mindfulness is the experience of being open and aware within the present moment. It has been shown to relieve stress, improve sleep, lower blood pressure, used as a treatment for depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders and many others.


Due to the countries shape cutting through Senegal, The Gambia is referred to as the smiling coast. Not just its coastal line, however its warm, welcoming locals. Africa’s smallest country is home to an abundance of biodiversity with over 540 different species of birds. It has wetlands, woodlands and grasslands.

Day 1: Group introduction and initial session at the Lodge
Good morning and welcome to The Gambia. Depending on your arrival, your days may change subject to your flight schedule.   On your first full day, enjoy a cup of coffee or tea alongside some fruit. Then you will undergo your first yoga session in the shala, with a tasty breakfast following.   During this afternoon you will return to the yoga shala for introduction to a mindfulness course and a workshop. Included:

Day 2: Beach yoga and mindfulness
Wake up, have some fresh fruits, coffee and tea. Then you will go to your yoga session on the beach. Practice as the sun rises.   This afternoon we will reflect on the day and partake in a mindfulness workshop. Included:

Day 3: Morning Yoga and Experience The Real Gambia
This morning you will begin your day with a yoga session in the shala. Following this, you will have your breakfast and then learn how to cook like a local.   Our local Gambian expert Mary will take you to the market to purchase local ingredients you will require for lunch. Back at the Lodge, she will show you how to prepare local delicacies.   Post lunch, you will go on a mindful walk on the beach. Here you will be able to experience the sun setting over the ocean. Then you’ll return to the Lodge for dinner. Included:

Day 4: Sunrise Yoga on the Alahein river and Restorative Yoga
This morning you will wake up slightly earlier, enjoy some snacks and a cup of tea. Then we will drive to Kartong and the riverside. Once we’ve reached, we will spend a few hours on the river while the sun is rising.   Then we will stop on the shore for morning rise and shine yoga. Afterwards, we will transfer back to the Lodge.   During this afternoon we will do a special restorative yoga and an evening mindfulness session in the yoga shala. Here you will become relaxed and bring in elements of self-compassion. Included:

Day 5: Closing Ceremony and Dinner
After your morning coffee, tea and fruit head to the Yoga Shala for your final morning session.   This afternoon, we will undergo a closing mindfulness session with a reflection of the week. Likewise, you will participate in individual action planning.   Following this, we will have a celebration dinner. Be warned; there may be some dancing! Included:
