Subject to the time of year you visit Vietnam you may encounter diverse types of weather. Similarly, you can also face different weather based on the area of Vietnam you visit. Therefore it’s vital you know whether to pack suncream or a raincoat in advance.

 

Northern Vietnam-Hanoi, Cuc Phuong Ha Long Bay, Sapa Ninh Bin and Mai Chau

April-October: During this period there will be plenty of rain in Northern Vietnam and hot temperatures as it’s the monsoon season. Likewise, in the capital Hanoi during the months July to September the wettest months occur. We recommend you bring an umbrella and a raincoat if you’re planning on trekking or doing other activities. Average temperatures range from 24°C-30°C.

Likewise, during the end of September and October, the temperatures are a bit more comfortable making it more tolerable for tourists.

 

November-March: A cool and dry season. However, during December-March, it gets a little bit colder as well as misty. Average temperatures are between 16°C-21°C.

Best time to travel: October, March and April.

 

Central Vietnam- Nha Trang, Hue, Dalat, Hoi An and Danang.

Coastal areas make up a lot of central Vietnam and temperatures can vary depending on the Northern central part and Southern central part.

January-September: Hot and dry weather occurs in Hoi An, Hue and Danang occur from January to August. However, in Nha Trang from January up until September is the dry season. This is where high temperatures occur and less rain. Overall, the best months to visit are July-August where temperatures are the most bearable.

October-December: The highest amount of rainfall occurs in the northern areas such as Hoi An, Hue and Danang. Often typhoons occur up until late November as the coastal area makes it more prone to natural disasters.

Likewise in Nha Trang during October-November it experiences its heaviest rainfall.

Best time to travel: Between April and August.

 

Southern Vietnam: Ho Chi Minh City, Phú Quốc and Mekong Delta.

Generally, in Southern Vietnam, the temperatures are bearable all around. Nevertheless, there are still two seasons which sets this area of Vietnam apart.

December-May: A dry season takes place with temperatures hitting the mid 30’s. Yet during March-May, the temperature gets in incredibly hot often hitting 40 °C.

June-November: This is when the rainy season occurs. Between the months June-July it can get extremely wet often contributing to flooding in Ho Chi Minh City.

On average throughout the year in Southern Vietnam temperatures can range from 25-35 °C.

Best time to travel: December, January, February, March and April.

 

We advise to also to check the weather forecast prior to your travel as then you will have a good estimate of temperatures and the type of weather that will occur.
