The valley’s history comes about by stories of a lake that drained out through a small gorge used to be Chobar Hill, making it a highly fertile valley. Inside this valley, there are gorgeous green hills, dotted by interesting small towns and picturesque villages. Also, it’s home to a range of religions such as Hindu, Buddhism, Muslim, Christian, Sikhs and many more. As well as many different ethnic groups from Indian, Tibetan, Mongolian, Newar, Tamang, Brahmins, Chettris, Sherpas and others. Those two lists are just a tiny example of just how diverse Kathmandu is.  What’s great about this is that all of them live within in harmony of one another.

What’s also amazing is that this Valley has a history of dynasties ruling over, now it’s the government ran. Which you can still see is present in former palaces and royal buildings. Did you know The Kathmandu Valley used to be comprised of 3 former cities? Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur which used to be ruled by kings. You can see this by visiting each Durbar Square in the former cities, Durbar is the word associated with a palace. Similarly, the markets in the valley fall under a tributary of the silk route.
