Delve into the history of Montenegro’s architectural hidden gems across a range of landscapes. Visit rural settlements meeting Shepherds showing you beekeeping, goat farming and honey production. Listen to ancient stories of the locals. All while practising vinyasa flow yoga in untouched Montenegrin wilderness.

 

This trip combines yoga with nature and cultural experiences. Every morning we start the day with a yoga practice, tailored to what the day will bring and set the scene for the day. The yoga is suitable for all levels. The leader and yoga instructor of this trip is the Founder of Ethical Travel Portal, Linda. During the journey, we will also have a local guide with us to give insight to the Montenegrin secrets.

 

Montenegro is a country for outdoor enthusiasts, full of mountains, jade green lakes, waterfalls and valleys. It is the ultimate hiking destination. Montenegrin nature and wildlife is incredibly diverse home to over 270 species of birds and many Mediterranean plants. Housed in its peaceful settlements reside, farmers and fishermen employing traditions their ancestors used.

 

A rich history and culture rest on Montenegro soil. You can witness influences on architecture from Christianity, Islam, Ancient Rome, the Ottoman Empire and Austria/Hungary. Not to mention it only gaining independence from Serbia back in 2006. Due to its fascinating past, many legends and folktales are surrounding its landscapes.

 

View nature at the edge of Pearl Durmitor, basking in the beauty of the black lake. Life continues into unspoilt rivers and waterfalls where you will indulge in organic Montenegrin dishes. Spot rare endangered birds and observe ancient religious buildings dating back to the 10th century. Finally, end your seven-day journey basking in the sun by the crystal clear Adriatic Sea.

Day 1: Welcome to Podgorica
Welcome to the capital of Montenegro, Podgorica. This city is a real part of Montenegro, full of rivers, bridges, modern spaces and green parks. Podgorica is renowned for its buzzing nightlife environment. Especially its vibrant night clubs and open-air bars. This evening you will have the night to chill in one of the many restaurants or cafes downtown.

Day 2: Morning Yoga, rock monument and a visit to a goat farm
Good morning, today we will have our first-morning session of vinyasa flow yoga. Enjoy some breakfast before we head north of the country. We will make sure not to miss the ancient church and monastery of Ostrog.   This a unique religious building as it's positioned high up on the rock of Ostroška Greda, inside a cave. Due to its natural barrier, it has kept its relics secure during the Ottoman empire. The sacred buildings are dedicated to the Saint Basil Ostros. Who died there in 1671 and is the topic of legends. While here, we will roam around the small ancient cave chapel and admire the exquisite frescoes. Finally, absorbing the stunning valley view.   Following on from here, we will head to a traditional goat farm. This farm is run by two brothers using traditional family methods. Observe goat cheese production, honey making and beekeeping. Then enjoy a traditional Montenegrin lunch consisting of roasted meats and potatoes. However, if you're a vegetarian, we will have options for you too.   Next, we'll depart and journey on to a different settlement located on the edge of Durmitor National Park. Here you will rest your head for the evening. Included:

Day 3: Morning Yoga and Hike through Durmitor
Wake up to the gorgeous surroundings of Durmitor National Park. Enjoy a tranquil vinyasa flow yoga session before starting our day. After some breakfast, we will embark on a morning hiking tour.   This tour will take you through the area of the mountain katuns. Here you'll get to witness the daily life of Montenegrin shepherds.   After 11km's worth of hiking, we will pause for a delicious lunch at Pošćenje village. This village is renowned for its charm and scenery. It has two lakes and is the entrance to an extreme canyon, Nevido.   Today's lunch will consist of fresh spring trout and organic vegetables. If you have different dietary requirements, let us know. Included:

Day 4: Yoga, lake and a waterfall
Wake up, have breakfast and undergo a yoga session. Before we leave our surroundings, pay a visit to the famous black lake. This glacial lake is often renowned as the pearl of Durmitor. It's the very best of Montenegrin wilderness.   Here we will continue through Durmitor national park via car. About half an hour into the journey, you will arrive at Savnik. Where your adventure for today, officially commences.   In this area, is the Christian Orthodox Monastery of Bijela. It was built around the 10th-11th century. It's one of the hidden gems of sacral architecture.   Located just next to it is the picturesque untouched Bijela river. We will also visit Crnjak waterfall, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Montenegro.   Included:

Day 5: Morning Yoga and Skadar Lake Cruise
This morning enjoy a vinyasa flow session and breakfast. Once digested and rejuvenated you will head down south to Skadar region. Here you will undergo a cruise where you'll witness nature of the lake, many bird species, medieval monasteries and fisherman villages.   You will learn about tales of ancient times and have your stomach filled with delicious traditional Montenegrin food. Similarly, this evening you will have a traditional homemade dinner with wine tasting at a local winery. Included:

Day 6: Boka Bay and Kotor Old Town
Rejuvenate your body with a vinyasa flow session next to the lake. Then have breakfast before we move on to new surroundings.   Today you will visit one of the most beautiful coastal Bayside towns of Montenegro. It's Perast and Kotor in Boka Bay. Here you will walk with a local around beautiful palaces and churches in Perast. You'll learn about local stories of captains and old noble families.   We will embark on a small cruise to an island named Our Lady of the Rock. It has a distinctive baroque church museum and a fantastic story surrounding it. Listen to the story, enjoy the 17th-century frescoes and incredible work of many artists.   We will next visit Kotor where our licensed guide will lead you through the Sea Gate and winding cobblestoned streets. Here we will visit Weapons Square, which dates back to the 16th century. While there you will learn about medieval Kotor craftsmanship, the sad stories of St Tryphon and blessed Mary of the river. Day 7: Free day in Luštica
Participate in morning yoga and have breakfast. Afterwards, you have the day free at your leisure on the Luštica peninsula. Bask in the sun on the beach and take a tip in the clear water.   We recommend you to visit Zanjice and Mirište, or even find a quaint secluded beach of your own. This evening enjoy a warm Mediterranean night. Included:

Day 8: Onwards to the airport for your return flight
Today you'll depart to the airport for your return flight home. Goodbye from Montenegro and we hope to see you again soon!
