< 1 min readAFNOW (Abubakarr Siddique Foundation for the Needy and Orphan Welfare) in Gunjur, The Gambia. The organization is locally based, and help those who need it the most.
It is always a delight to visit and support local organizations in the communities where we are sending our travellers. AFNOW is one of those organizations, located in Gunjur to help the people in their own village. The organization is run by local volunteers and today it is seven that are involved on a daily basis. The organization was set up in 2003, by teacher Abubacarr Siddique, to be the voice of the vulnerable in the society, especially the orphans and widows.
Today AFNOW support children that have lost one or both parents to get an education and to help widows to get an additional source of income. It is difficult to imagine losing one or both parents but in The Gambia, the effect is devastating. AFNOW gives a helping hand to give these children a brighter future. The organization has supported over 300 children providing them with an education. This has been possible thanks to generous donations from individuals (locals and visitors) and small businesses that support their work. items like clothes, books and pencils etc that are donated are carefully distributed to the children in order so everyone will get something.
You can help AFNOW directly, check their website or give us a shout and we will be happy to connect you.
